Overview

Home Dialysis (2022) New and Updated Tools for Patient & Team

In this three-hour session, you will learn about new additions and recent changes in the field of home dialysis therapies, training tools and advanced patient education modules supported by the Davita Team. This workshop will provide an overview of the basic and new features of Home dialysis. Topics will include updates and new features in assisted home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. You will learn how to start up a home dialysis module, create patient oriented education material, patient experience and learning using engaging assignments and effectively communicate for the team. Virtual reality demo as well as a brief overview of other tools that you may find useful in your patient education modules.

The workshop will also introduce various teaching tools that work seamlessly with Home dialysis.

Speakers

Dr. Wisam Al Badr, MD
Chief Medical Officer, DaVita KSA

Dr. Wisam Al Badr, Chief Medical Officer at DaVita KSA, has more than two decades of experience in healthcare. Currently serving as vascular access center program director for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and as the eastern province medical director. Dr Al Badr, earned her bachelors in Medicine and surgery in 1995 and have been practicing since. After receiving her bachelor's degree in medicine from King Abdul Aziz University – Jeddah, Dr. Al Badr completed her residency training, Michigan (United States). She trained in nephrology and interventional nephrology at Saint Louis University, Missouri, USA. She progressed to be dual board certified in medicine and Nephrology by the ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine & Nephrology), American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology.

Dr. Al Badr was previously part of the core quality committee at King Fahad Specialist Hospital – Dammam (KFSH-D) and has been an examiner with the Saudi Council of Health Specialties at KFSH-D. She completed training in lean methodology and is a certified professional in healthcare quality. Dr. Al Badr is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Nephrology and the Saudi Society of Nephrology. She has aspirations of improving the association between operation and the medical field profession as they are an inseparable combination.

Dr. Partha Das
Chief Medical Officer - DaVita International

Partha Das is an honorary consultant nephrologist at King's College Hospital in London and chief medical officer of the international division of DaVita, a global provider of kidney care services. He was a Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice based at Harvard University, where he led research on quality improvement and systems transformation in healthcare organisations. Dr. Das has held a variety of senior research and clinical management positions, including advisor to the national clinical director for kidney care at the UK Department of Health in London. He has led several quality improvement programmes across England in dialysis, CKD and transplantation care. More recently he has worked on the development of systems engineering as a means for delivering high-value care as a member of the Quality Improvement Faculty at the Royal College of Physicians in London and has published and presented internationally on patient safety and QI in kidney care.

Jeffery Giullian, MD MBA
Chief Medical Officer - DaVita Kidney Care

Dr. Giullian is a nephrologist from Denver and Chief Medical Officer of DaVita Kidney Care. As the clinical leader, he is engaged in developing and implementing DaVita’s clinical strategies of holistic patient care, patient-centered innovation, differentiated clinical outcomes, patient experience, physician engagement, and patient education. Dr. Giullian trained in nephrology and transplantation at Vanderbilt University, where he served as Chief Fellow in 2006.  Prior to assuming the role of Chief Medical Officer, Jeff served as the CMO for DaVita’s Hospital Services Group, providing inpatient dialysis and apheresis care in partnership with over 900 hospitals across the US. 

He has been involved in clinical research and has held several leadership positions including Chief of Nephrology and Chairman of Medicine at two community hospitals in Denver. Outside of his clinical and professional work, Dr. Giullian is active in the Renal Physician’s Association, formerly serving on the Board of Directors, past Chair of the Healthcare Payment Committee and previously as one of RPA’s advisors to the AMA RVU Utilization Committee.  He is actively involved in educating physicians on coding and billing, value-based care and practice transformation. When not involved in clinical care and oversight, Dr. Giullian enjoys traveling, running and spending time in the Colorado Mountains with his wife and daughter.
